According to a study by some scientists, academics, researchers and other big brains: the double standard at work is alive and well in 2011.
Are you back on your chair? Do I need to find the smelling salts? Shocking, I know!
Here are the highlights:
- Men get paid more than women.
- “Disagreeable” men get paid most of all.
- Agreeable women are paid the least and are considered “pushovers.”
- Tougher women are considered b*tches and worse?! I don’t believe it.
And, here is the kicker, there is no sign of it getting better.
Direct quote from Timothy Judge, a professor of management at the Mendoza College of Business at Notre Dame:
“If you’re a disagreeable man, you’re considered a tough negotiator. But, the perception is that if a woman is agreeable, she gets taken advantage of, and if she is disagreeable, she’s considered a control freak or ‘the B-word.'”
Wow. Just what I needed, another reason to wonder why the hell I even bother with this whole work thing. Well, for starters I’m raising boys right now and maybe I can help change the perceptions and attitudes of three men who will start hitting the workforce in the year 2026.
